Team work, it’s always about teamwork and reaching out to others.
It took me thirty years to understand that simple concept. I was always to macho to accept help and rely on others. The problem with mental illness is accepting it and embracing it and taking that first step.
I identify as having mental illness whenever I speak to an audience. I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder but….. I am a survivor. You don’t have to go to war to suffer PTSD and everyone at some time in their life will experience a traumatic event. Weather it be a car crash, a natural disaster, or the death of a loved one you will experience an uncomfortable situation of some sort. How you understand it and how you wrap your mind around it and embrace it is how your going to be able to move forward in life.
Accepting your trauma and reaching out to others is key to moving forward. Teamwork, support, and simply asking for help will initiate growth. I learned that I was not that special to be the first person to experience these feelings associated with my mental illness. There were others just like me.
Call it what you will, sharing, teamwork, life support, or just help it’s out there.
