Honor Flight #23
When Westchester County asked me to participate in Honor Flight #23 I was thrilled. It was an honor to lead 75 veterans in a send off ceremony at Westchester County Airport in White Plains NY. I road the first bus from the terminal through town on a motorcade then back to a private hanger for a ceremony. We walked in procession to a thousand cheering Americans as I led the way with tears in my eyes.
Honor Flight is a not for profit organization that gives veterans an all experiences paid weekend in Washington DC. Veterans from all WWII, Korea, and Vietnam are flown to Washington and taken to their respective War Memorials and honored for their sacrifices. They come from all over the country and participate in ceremonies, dinners, and parades in our Nations Capital.
For many aging veterans this is the only time they will ever get to go to Washington. There were 25 over the age of 90, the oldest being 94. The bulk of the group was WWII then Korea and 4 from Vietnam.
